danio mixes

I don't mean breeding, but, having them together.
I had six zebra danios, and one seems to have escaped. Not that I can find any sign of it anywhere.
So, i'd like to get another to keep the numbers even, but, would it have to be a zebra?

I would say yes because a different one may feel a bit left out and not shoal with the rest...But if you rehomed one of the existing danios and got 2 different ones of the same kind they would much more likely fit in better with the existing shoal .

no they don't have to be the same, however you should keep similar sized danios together. IE keep zebra, leopards, kyathit, hikari, pearls, etc with each other but not with dwarfs, bengals, giants etc.
