Hi. I've noticed today that one of the danios in our tank has a dark growth on its bottom lip. It is feeding fine, very active and doesn't seem to be behaving any differently to normal. Other than the 'growth' there are no signs of ill health - its colour is the same, scales look healthy, etc. I have a 60 gallon tank which is home to 4 danio, 5 neon tetra, 5 black neon tetra. The tank has been runnng for about 2 years and the fish are all original inhabitants. I've checked the levels and all ok.

I've attached a pic - it's the best I could get as they dart around so quickly!

Can't make much out in the pic.

Can you describe the growth in more detail.
Any fluffy cotton wool on the mouth.
Any strands of cotton on the mouth.
Any redness to the mouth.
Is the mouth swelling or rotting away.
Does the mouth look bleached out.
Does the mouth look like a greyish white colour.
Does the growth look like a greyish white spot with redness, a tumour, or look like a cauliflower.

Tank is not 90 gallon at all! Sorry... 60 litre (not sure what I was thinking!)

No fluffy cotton or strands

The best way to describe it is a dark grey tumour on the bottom lip/under its mouth - I tried to get a better pic by dropping in some food but no joy. When feeding, I can see that it is definitely on the underside of it's lip and it looks quite swolllen (so that when it has it's mouth closed it looks like it's pouting). From what I can see, the mouth itself looks fine - no redness.

The only other thing I would say is that the gills look a little red (compared to the other danios)

What's your location for a med?

Can you post water stats please.
What test kit are you using.

Red inflamed gills can be bad water quality, gill flukes, bacteril gill rot.

Do the fish show any of these symtoms.
Flicking and rubbing.
Laboured breathing or gasping at the surface of tank.
Opaque body with excess slime.
Darting or erratic swimming.
Swimming in a jerky movement.
Weightloss.
Spitting food out.
Red sores, or red pin prick marks on fish body.

Sorry, what do you mean by "What's your location for a med?"?

The test kit is an API Freshwater Master Test Kit

Amonia (NH3/NH4) = 0
Nitrate (NO2) = 0
Nitrate (NO3) = 20-30

pH is at 7.2 (which is actually higher than normal - it's usually just below 7.0)

They're not displaying any of the symptoms above - the danios have always chased/darted around after each other but there's been no change in that behaviour (i.e. they're not more erratic or jerky in their movement).

Temperature is about 75

I wondered if it may be a fungal disease or do you think it may be a tumour?

I am due to do a water change this weekend - I usually only change 30% but should I do a 50% change this time?

Uk. Anti internal bacteria med by interpet, or myxazin.
United States. Maracyn one and two.

Either anti internal bacteria med by interpet or myxazin by waterlife.
If no improvement after 5 days get back to the board.
Or any changes.
