I have 7 zebra danios and I have noticed they chase each other a lot. Its mostly the biggest female chasing. Is this normal? They are all very active and they dont school all the time, so that means they arent frightened right?

Thanks B)

Mine chase each other a lot, I think that is normal, they are just very active fish

it is perfectly normal, and the very reason danios shouldn't be kept in less than 20gallon tanks (not suggesting you have then in smaller).

the alpha fish, female in your case, will exert its' dominance at every opportunity.

Yeah I thought so, btw they are in a 30 gallon tank

Mine are in a smaller tank and have been doing great, they have plenty of space and usually just follow each other around anyway.

tell me they are ok after the alpha fish kills all other tankmates.
I have seen it happen more than once.
don't say you wern't told.

Wolf I never had any of them dieing yet, and these guys I've had for a year now. I have watched them enough and nobody has been killing or hurting anyone else.

Their activeness is why I like danios so much.

I only had any real aggression when I had too few fish.

From what i've read, females will chase males around when they want to breed?

Thats a good question, hopefully Wolf will chime in and answer that. I dont even know how big they have to be to breed. The Female is the biggest and she is probably 1-1/4"

ZDs become sexually mature at around 5 months old
