danio breeding question

my zebra and leopard danios have always been prolific spawners and i have never had a problem getting them to spawn. the problem is this time i have tried to spawn them it didn't work. I put 2 very fat females with my male and after three days they have not spawned. could they be possibly too old?(ive had them for over a year now)or am i just being impatient?

Not sure. However, try doing a water change and add slightly more acidic water.

You could also try raising the temperature by 2degrees f
Danios will spawn upto around 4 yrs old I.E. their end of days.

My tips are:

Prinicpally

1) Make sure the water is soft and no higher than PH7

2) Live food such as daphnia can induce spawning


And if that does not work

3) raise the temperature a couple of degrees as Wolf said

4) lower the water level.

I also suspect that a partial water change with colder fresh water (which soon heats up) can work as it simulates the rush of cold water into a river/stream after rain. This certainly works with White Clouds and I am pretty sure it helps my danios. (but don't put too much in and chill them!)
