can you bring them to the fish store? i do that sometimes.

There are some fishes (clown loaches for example) that eat snails. But you cannot put them in a tank with red belly piranha. Your best bet would be to pick them out manually or just squish them against the glass. If you squish them the fish might eat them and develop a taste for them. Then they can do the job for you.

You can get snail traps that you bait with a bit of algae wafer or similar. The snails crawl in but cant get out. Had mild success with one.

..trapped a tetra in it once but no harm was done. Think the one i used was "limcollect" or something along those lines. Made me think of limpets.

Assasin snails maybe? Other than that just drop an algae wafer into the bottom of the tank, leave it for a few hours and scoop out the dozens that will surround it!

I have a 29 gallon tank and haven't had much luck with clown loaches. I had one who lived for a bout 5 years before dying. I got him before I new the tank was too small for loaches. What I'm wondering is there a type loach that could live comfortably in a tank this size. I am starting to have quite a number of snails that I'd like to be rid of. Presently I don't have and fish - just live plants and driftwood. Tank is cycled and ready for fish. Any ideas?

Do not buy loach just to overcome a snail problem, they deserve much more respect than that. Drop a chunk of cucumber in the tank and turn off the lights, give it an hour or two and it will be covered with loads of snails. You can even sell snails on eBay, it's amazing what people buy!!!
