I was so excited to get my dwarf puffer from petsmart today but when I called they said they never got them.

someone just lied to me to get me off the phone!

and the worst part is I just traded all of my fish so I could have room for the puffer.

in the the tank I have 1 baby ghost shrimp and 3 amazon swords, can I hold out another week or will my tank recycle again?

also since it seems that everyone around here doesnt seem to have dwarf puffers.

what kind of puffer (only one) can I put in a 10g as a permanent home?

I dont mind going brakish but I think it might kill my amazon swords.

what do you think?

I called big als and all they had were fahakas and green spotted puffers.

then I called Pj's and they told me they dont house puffers since they're all salt water??????

man are these people retarded....I'm having such a bad day.

Colomesus Asellus (SA Puffer)

you've got a pond, right? do you have any baby fish you could add to your puffer tank while its waiting? or alternatively, do you have room for one more goldie in your pond?

PS: family-friendly forum...

oops lol, im just upset.

sry about that.

and i guess i can turn off the heater and put in a goldfish or a shubunky?

or maybe i can put a hand full of pond snails? :dunno:

i'd just turn off the heater and add a small goldie. unless you want the snails in your tank... but the goldie would probably increase your beneficial bacteria. "oh baby, i'm just a poop machine, and i can't eat without making a poo..."

The only puffer suitable for 10g are Dwarfs, there's nothing else small enough exept perhaps c. lorteti (red-eyed puffer) IF you can find them.

The issue isn't about the amount of room the fish needs, but about the amount of waste that puffers produce compared to how clean they require their water to be.

A small tank is considerably harder to maintain stability in than a larger one.

oops sry didnt read sir minions post before posting :*)

i guess ill have to look around for a red tail or a dwarf....

my SAP lives in a 125litre tank (30gal?? not sure)

you do know they need their teeth trimming quite regularly...?

I was told by annother member of this forum (Pufferpack) that keeping an SA puffer in a 10 gallon tank was okay as long as you were on top of your tank maintenance every day. But I must say, if none of the petstores around you, blackfinshark_3, can get in dwarf puffers, I don't know if you'll be able to get something a little more exclusive like SA puffers or Red tails. :/

if you're looking for an active tank, then to be honest i think that i would choose dwarf puffers over red-eyes (lortetis). I can't say if the same is true for red-tails (irrubescos), but my lortetis aren't the most active puffers ever - they seem to spend most of the day hiding/lurking under plants and in bits of wood. However if you want something more unusual and imo more attractive looking, then IMO a single male red eye or red tail would be a good choice.

if you can, maybe try and find a lfs who stock slightly more unusual fish on a regular basis, and see if the assistants will maybe order in fish by request - at least two shops in my area will generally order stuff in if you ask them and they have it on their weekly list from suppliers

cool, ur lucky, im just ateen so they dont listen to me.

when they see teens walk into the store without parents they dont offer us help, they just follow me arou dthinking ill steal something!

but ill have to be patient and wait for a dwarf puffer......the shubunky in the tank is very hiper? :dunno:

How about (schotodeni), There are some in my lfs just now (in brackish, I told em they arent brackish but not listening to someone who knows what fish it is is out of the question), look almost like gsp,s but not as cute and top out at 2.5-3 inches, also known as the congo spotted puffer.
