hi eheim classic 2213 external.bought this seci=ond hand and guy seemed very genuine.have now filled with water next to the sink to have a play with it, i meant test it and check its ok! as soon as its full and and i fire it up it starts pumping water and all is ok for about 10 seconds and then the water starts running down the side of the canister! i replaced the main o ring seal and its a bit better and a tighter fit but tried it again and it still comes out.canister where the seal goes seems fine ie no cuts or crack or scratches.poss coming out through the pump head? pls advise i need to use this and cant see whats wrong! aarrrrggghhh! ps the metal clamps on the sides are not overly tight?but the seal is?

are you sure you fitted the seal correctly and without breaking/nicking it?
when you took it out of the vacuum sealed packet did you cut it out or gently tease it out?
did you clean the place where the seal goes to remove any and all obstructions?

try removing the seal and cleaning everything again anyway, you never know there maybe something
so small you can't see that is causing the problem.

other than that I'm thinking you need to get some seal grease and coat everything with that.
any eheim supplier should be able to get this for you.

random question, would PTFE tape help around the seal, use it for helping hold seals in plumbing

i thought about greaseing it.used to have an underwater camera and it was mega important to grease that properly, but thought cos it was fishy water i wouldnt be able to use anything on it.any one else had this prob?

spoken to my lfs and they say that a) leaks on eheims are very rare.(true?) B) there are two steps on the pump head where the seal sits.it should be placed on the first and as you push it all closed it will move over to the second ,bigger seat. will try this tonight and reply!

Vasilene.... (petroleum jelly)

Eheim Classics are very reliable. Some of mine are very old and run like they were new. Vaseline is neutral and can help with a dodgy seal, but I've never needed it with a Eheim, Fluval - every time, Eheim, no. I'm also wondering if you have fitted it wrong.

ok tried to fit the seal on the first step/groove bit and push closed.wouldnt go on nicely.one side would go in first. doh! vaselined the seal very lightly and gave it 30 mins to "soak up" as lfs said.went on pretty good.fired up and bingo no leak! good ? no. slapped the pump head after 30 seconds running and presto water everywhere again.
the pump head doesnt run quietly.you probably couldnt sleep if it was a new addition to a bedroom.the cerammic impeller shaft was broke when it came to me and someone has run it like that.new shaft and rubbers fitted by me but the hole in the impelller is oval so that probably doesnt help! any feedback or miraculous solutions appreciared. ps could it be leaking from under the top of the pumphead? that bit looks like i could take that off????

as this is a second hand filter, I'm thinking the actual pump head is cracked and will need replacing.
this is probably the 'true' reason the person sold it.
the part number is 7632500

just taken the plastic top off and think i see the prob.the motor is a sealed unit and on the output pipe there is an o ring on the tube.the tube has a tiny flange on the top.i mean tiny it could even be from the plasti moulding and just want trimming off ( but to be honest i wouldnt expect that from ehiem .the o ring was sitting right at the top and there are marks where someone has taken the top off before. i think its all pouring out past the oring. can anybody take a look at theres inside and tell me what they see.maybe somethings broken off? arrrrggghh!!!! nothings ever easy!!!

just took the top off my2215 and there is a plastic ring that sits on top of the oring and the plastic edge that i saw seeems to be where its melted to stop people(idiots) taking it apart, hence mine is missing the plastic ring.arrrggghh! wonder if you can get it as a part? knowing my luck i already know the answer!

yes you can get just the O ring part
eheims part number is 7250600 :good:
