:( I did a partial water change/detritus removal this afternoon. I don't know if I sucked up the fish, but after I noticed one of my pristellas has two or three scales sticking out. I noticed because they reflect the light differently. Should I do something or will they fix themselves? cool_jool

Hi cool_jool

If it just scale damage, it should fix it's self. You should keep an eye on the fish to see if the damage continues to grow.

When I transfered some of my discus, to my display tank, one of them lost a few scales on it's side. They have now grown back.

Does the fish look bloated? If it does then this may mean that the fish has dropsy.

Keep an eye on it. Hopefully it will be fine in a few days.

just to let you know, pristellas are a type of tetra that is scaleless, what more than likely happened is he scaped the slime coating off in that area and damaged the skin abit. just keep a close eye on him but should be ok. pristellas are very hearty little fish, I have 6 that have been through ammonia poisoning , ICH, and when I moved the contents of my loaner tank to my new 55 gallon one of the pristellas got stuck in the net and was out of the water for about 15 minutes until I noticed it. I thought he was gone, but by morning he was swimming in the shoal with all of the oters and has made a full recovery not more than 3 weeks later.

:D Thanks for the advice and support - little fishy seems to be recovering already. Skin is now smooth and uniform. No sign of listlesness or loss of appetite. Thanks again - cool_jool
