Okay so 8-9 days ago I purchased a crown tail betta from pets at home and named him Drogon I had his 24l tank which has a heater and a hang on back filter. It has java fern, moss balls and some floating plants. His tank was cycled and I’ve been using the API freshwater masterkit to check water parameters. When I purchased him he already had a small white dot on him which you can see in the first picture. I thought it was fungal so started using API pimafix. After the spot had doubled in size I stopped medication as it was doing nothing and in my head it was a either a cyst or a tumour. Few days later another small spot has appeared below the white spot but it’s actually inside the fin it’s not come out of the tissue yet and this is what it looks like now the recent pictures. Can someone please tell me what they might think it is. I’m so scared for the little guy. I’m assuming it’s bacterial would I be correct ??

More and more bettas are having those little pimples, especially if they are from pets@home.

I do not know treatment.

Regret buying from them but I’m not giving the little guy up. Do you think it’ll get big enough to affect his quality of life

Ehh... that depends....

I don't think its a tumor, as those usually only form on the body of the fish. I know @essjay had a betta like this a few years ago? She said it lived for quite some time.

My betta had a lump start on his body rather than the fins and it was just above his gill. As it grew it engulfed his gill and was obviously suffering but until then he behaved like every other betta I've had.
As your betta has the lump on his fin, it shouldn't cause the same problem that my betta had. Keep an eye on it and if it changes or it looks as though another disease is starting, let us know and we'll see if we can suggest something then.

We can't get very strong medication in the UK, so for now make sure his tank is kept clean. I'm not good with diseases; if other members suggest salt might help, do what they say. But not unless another member tells you to use salt.
