Mate of him has had his tank for just over 2 weeks but he took the advice of a LFS and added fish to his tank straight away after been told cycle would do make his tank fish safe in a hour

Anyways 2 weeks in and his fish are dead (new tank syndrome) i handed him the fishless cycle print out i go from here last monday but unknown to me he started a fishless cycle with the tank water that was already in the tank from when he had fish in there. So the wuestion is will it be ok to carry on or will he have to change the water?

It should be fine either way - the only thing to watch is that he'll likely have some ammonia already in the water, so he'll have to account for that when he adds the first dose of ammonia. Alternately, he can let the bacteria he's already built up handle that. Once it's down to 0, it'll be like adding the second dose of ammonia, just top up to 4-5 ppm.

Cheers for reply

Was at his place before and bumped his Ammonia up to 4 - ppm hopefuly he will pick a API tester up tomorrow

Amazing how a fishless cycler, seeing another beginner lose a tank of fish from not knowing, gets re-inspired to be patient with their own fishless cycle, isn't it? :D
