Ok, I know fish cycling is discouraged but i need to work with what I have as i have zero funds now!!

I had to abort my fry tank this morning (6gal) it had been running 2 days (in a panic i set it up) and I lost nearly all my fry (who are now back in trap in main tank).

Now my plan is to cycle the fry tank with one of my corys, its only 6 gal, has a small box filter, some substrate, rocks and pots and fake plant. I filled it with 25% main tank water and 75% treated tap water.

I was gonna move the cory over on sunday but is there any need to wait? couldnt i do it tonight?
and what temp would it be happy with? i eventually as long as cory 1 is ok plan to move his 2 friends over and keep them there until i get more molly fry.

all help greatly receivde

If you have a mature tank, you can use media from the filter to cycle the new tank. Fry should not be that bothered by an uncycled tank????? unless the water temp was different or some other shock. Simply putting some seed media from the old filter in, perhaps adding some substrate from the old tank to seed it, and doing some daily water changes should take care of it. Fry often don't take well to changes, ime. Maybe start the fry in water from their parent tank.

Please don't do a cold cycle with no attempt to keep the water stats within acceptable ranges with the Cory. It is not necessary if you have a mature tank running.
