Cycling question

This is my first time, so im not quite sure about it all... but from wat ive read i start off by adding ammonia until i get a reading of 5? When do i test it? Do i test it 10 mins after i add it or 1 hour or a day?

Give it about 30 mins for a fairly accurate reading. What size tanak are you cycling?

ive got a 2 foot tank and im gona divide it in half for my two male bettas with a sponge filter on each side. And maybe get some tankmates for them 2... i duno yet
