My fishless cycle seems to be going quite well at the moment...*touch wood* :D

Anyway, I was wondering why you have to halve the ammonia dose after you see the nitrie spike? I'm probabl just being thick but I can't work out why. -_-

i believe its because it will take time for bacteria to colonize that converts nitrite into nitrate, and you don't want to bacteria that converts ammonia into nirtite to die for lack of food while the new bacteria is colonizing. Thats my understanding of it.

half the amnonia should be enough food for the bacteria that converts ammonia to nitrite.
