Cycling marine tanks

Hello,

I'm thinkingof switching from Africans to Marine pretty soon and just have a quick question. Can you cycle a new marine tank (ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate) using just live rock? or do ypu have to add fish too??

Hi loafy,

Simply adding live rock is a fine way to cycle your tank. I used live rock which was bought from a store and the die-off from the rock simply decomposes into ammonia, thus beginning the cycle. No need to add any fish.

Could someone also suggest a good web-site to help me decide which fish to get? I want to get some coral and can find out which fish will go with coral, but i can't see what any of them look like!!

Hi..if this is going to be a nano tank, check our nano-reef.com. If it is a larger marine reef, reefcentral.com is supposed to be excellent. Good luck. SH
