i try and answer lots of q's in the beginner forum, you get a lot of people saying how's my cycle going. Some people will do a basic graph/chart/table with the day's and the results in and this makes it really easy to see what's gone on and advise appropriatley. Some people will write up a paragraph with vague results and lots of description but no actual numbers, I find this really hard to get an accurate picture of what's going on and it can be difficult to help people.

I was just thinking would it be any use to put up a pinned topic or adding something to the fishless cycling post telling people how to make the charts in basic programmes like word or excel and how to record they're results so that if they need help later it's easier for us to see what's happened?

Although it is a great idea, practically, I'm not sure it would work. It's enough work just trying to convince people to use the search button sometimes. Such is life. There is so much information here on cycling...and so many people willing to help....charts may make the work harder. It's a great thought tho' and even better to see that YOU are thinking of how to help people.

Keep up the good work.

There's a search button!!!!????!?!?!?!?!

Where dat den???

(Joke btw).

@Miss 'w',

Another good idea.

....but....

I dunno, I think there may be far too many factors involved as a lot of people tend to say "I have done exactly as blah blah and yet my tank is not cycled / stalled etc etc". If you post up a graph (or whatever) then ppl will expect things to follow it.... do you see what I mean?

I do my best to help! never been one for just winging and not doing things.

I've fairly recently started out in marines and I really apprreciate the massive amount of help I've had from the more experienced members there, so while I may not find reading 20 posts about cycling every day the most interesting part of this hobby I know that other people out there really need and appreciate the help. good to give something back!

I do understand what you mean, it may be a bit much to ask of people and may get completely ignored. Just speaking from personal experience plenty of newbies already do it and it makes my life easier!

yeah i didn't mean posting up a graph saying this is exactly what should happen. more than we could give people instructions for how to make one and tell them what information we'd like them to record to make our jobs easier.

I do understand what your both saying though, probably too much work for not much gain.
