Hi all I have an outbreak of cyano I have ordered some new Rowaphos and will reduce my feeding down and reduce the light times by an hour. Are there any good critters that help clean up cyano please?

i dont know of anything that really chomps cyano...

are you feeding a lot of frozen food? if you are you need to make sure its de-frosted and risned through a net before adding it to the tank. I find that frozen food really kick starts cyano

I have been only feeding frozen I will start swilling through before adding thanks :)

i de-frost mine in an egg cup on the halide. Then poor it down the sink through a net catching the food. Then chuck a small cup of ro through on top of it. This way once you net the food into the tank, the fish are used to the net :shifty: then its not so hard catching them if you need to

Also you could try a day of lights out.

Change your phos remover.
phyically remove as much cyano as you can
then leave the lights off for a day.

Meh Looks like my skimmer is`nt skimming at the moment which wont be helping will strip it and clean it tommorrow

Increase flow to the area
check skimmer
reduce feeding
check water stats

I had an outbreak in the nano and a small patch of it in the big boy - both times it went away by increasing the flow

Skimmer is playing up no bubbles coming out so having a play tonight to sort

Have ordered a WG310 from ebay but will take a week or so as its from HK no harm in having a spare at only £14

I have a Korialla Nano ready for tank No 2 so will break that out tonight and point at it the outbreak.

Will pop into the LFS on the way home think a couple of my nassurius snails might have been lost when i had to dig out my chromis so will pick up 2 Trocheus snails and some New Era pellets.

Will also see if they have some sieves to clean frozen food as recommended.

Will check water Qual tonight to see if nitrates have crept up a bit if so will do a 10%

I reduced my light cycle to 10 hours already

Have been reading up and from what I have read if this is nt dealt with quickly it can get very bad very quick hopefully these changes will get it back in line quickly not sure I want to use any treatments as them sound like they can do as much bad as good.

You can use a fine meshed net.

When you get the Rowaphos, start off with a double dose to get control

Fixed skimmer looking better than ever atm found half a hermit crab not sure who had him guessing that wont help stats though.

Checked my chaeto not seeing a lot of growth in there might grab some more next time I visit southwest marines.

Nitrates have hit 15 :( but on a positive note everything is still looking healthy will do a 10% water change friday then another 10% on sunday.

I have a tad bit of cyano on a frag plug. A guy in my lrc said it's really a bacteria and it will grow where there are nutrients. He noticed that he doesn't have any since he started using halides w/a higher kelvin where as there is a ton in his refugium. How old are your lights?

So what happens to nutrients in the frozen mix when you wash it?

Lights are new , there is a lot of liquid with frozen food so it goes down the sink now ;)-
