Hi, I just bought a cuvier bichir from the pet store today. I don't know much about them, except that they grow to around a foot long and are predatory.

Anyways, it's only one or two inches right now. It's being kept in a 30 gal. with five tetras, two platys, a suckermouth, and a couple ghost shrimp.

any info would be great, thanks!

there more often called senegal bichirs. polypterus senegalus . they grow pretty big and are very predatory. your shrimp, platy's, and tetras WILL become food when they can fit in its mouth

try feeding him/her shrimp pellet's my two guy's eat it all the time, and try looking in the fish index.

I know this... as I said he's only an inch or two long right now. How long will it take to grow large enough to eat small fish/ shrimp?

I'll look around at the pet store for some food.

thanks!

the shrimp will be first to go - mine were. anything less than an inch will follow soon after, though the new Poly. wont do too much serious damage untill its a couple of inches longer.

my wonderful mama P (senegal birchir)is a serious hunter - and is so amazing to watch when she is doing it :) on a side note, feeding them if you are away is much easier - just throw in a few guppies or cheap tetras and she will help herself.

that said - i also have a delhezi and he is crap. he will let baby guppies swim all oc=ver his face and wont do anything, mama P on the other hand will go after them and eat all she can.

i love Mama P

Thats odd, my Delhezi is only about 3" and just ate a few cardinal tetras last night.
