I found a cuttlefish bone and thought maybe it would be good for my shrimp. I read about boiling it first but then read it could change my water parameters. I have a berried shrimp so quite happy with my levels at the moment. could it do more harm than good? i use bacter ae and shrimp minerals when i add r.o. water to my tank. should i just keep it for the budgie or could it be a great addition to my tank ? I have snails in the tank too x

Cuttlebone us made from calcium carbonate and if you add a lot, it can raise the pH of the water. If you only add a small amount it is unlikely to affect the water chemistry. It tends to float so you need to weight it down. You can use a small drill bit to make a hole in it and tie it to a rock with some cotton thread.

Personnally I'd give the cuttle fish bone to the budgie. If you don't have already the birds need a high source of calcium which the bone easily supplies.

Birds also need vitamin D, which they get from sunlight. If the birds don't get enough sun, they get health issues like rickets.
