Its possible - better if you can mark it up and take it to a pro though - and safer.

You can get glass cutters, not unlike tile cutters, from DIY stores. They score the glass and you have to break it over an edge after.

Make sure you wear thick gloves, decent saftey specs and do it away from anything or anyone that could be harmed.

Good Luck!

If the glass is 4mm thick, you are in with a chance; if any thicker, it's unlikely you will cut it that narrow. If you have several pieces to cut, start from the centre. Score the glass once only with a glass cutter, place the handle of the cutter directly under the scored line, and apply equal pressure with the fingers either side of the scored line. Then repeat until you have the required number and sizes of strips.

Does it have to be "Glass"? "Cos I'd rather go to a Crafts shop and pick up Acrylic sheet (ask if they have a scrap bin you might get lucky) and have them cut it for you (most will). But if it must be "Glass" I'd go to a glass shop and do the same as if going to a Craft shop (scrap bin and all the other procedures).

That's the way I'd do it with limited information given. I can figure out other "Fixes" if there were more info to go on.

I'm a glasscutter in a glass factory. As you want to cut thin strips (2-3cms) with an ordinary over the counter glasscutting wheel, it will be tricky as said earler, and be prepared to waste some glass in your effort.
If you are cutting 4mm float then score your line (only once) along your piece.
then tap it from underneath until you see the cut open and run along your score line, then with a pair of pliers gently (pushing downward) help the cut split along that score line. 4mm float should be ok but 6mm plate will be more difficult.
Hope this was of some help
