Evening All,

I have just been looking for a heater for my Fluval Edge tank and stumbled across the Rena smart 50watt heater and it looks really good and reviews say it is too but I have some questions.

Has anyone used it on here and can comment on it at all?

Can I put some new flexi pipe between the heater & the "U" tube or is this going to be too long to fit with my height restrictions. I have approximatly 20cm from top to bottom of the tank to fit it in. Altohugh if I use flexi tube I could put it at an angle?

It does state it will work vertical or Horizontal when in the tank.

Does anyone have physical dimensions of the heater itself?

Does anyone know the size of the outlet from the Rena Smart as I could possibly slide it directly onto the intake "U" tube on the Edge tank should they be compatible.

I was thinking this would be a good choice so I didn't have both the intake tube and the heater. Plus it is a solid black colour so will be hidden at the back of my tank as that is also black.

Edit: Also I have just found the AquaEl Neoheater and at 165mm long seems to be the smallest standard heater I could find should the Rena be too big or inefficant in design.

And I did read that the Rena fits to 16mm outlet but I don't know if it is on the Fluval Edge tank.

Kind Regards,

Adam

i dont have the dimensions but i would recomend these heaters, i had 2 300w rena smarts and they where brilliant

Thanks Stephen,

Glad to hear that you would recommend this product. At moment it all depends on the size and connection as the idea looks good and would suit the tank should it actually fit.

I also found it for a pretty good price at £15 so for the design etc seem like a good deal.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Anyone got any info about these two heaters as I need to order tomorrow or possibly buy something else as I am ready to start my cycle.

I am getting a donar heater from my parents tonight just for a few days until mine is sorted.

Any information would be most welcome.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Hey everyone,

I have found out that the Hagen filter on my Fluval Edge is the same as the aquaclear 20. Can anyone confirm the size of the u-bend tube. If it is 16mm diameter then I should be able to put the Rena smart directly onto the tube.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Evening,

After doing some more reserch I found that that the Rena Smart is 165mm long which makes it just about the right length before I get too close to the bottom of my tank so just waiting to find out about the u-bend inlet dimensions.

Until then I have put a Deltatherm 25watt heater in there I got cheap from my local pet shop.

On another note does anyone know if I could put the heater in the back of the HOB as I have seen this done on a few other edge tanks and they put them where the biomax goes etc but wasn't sure if this was a good idea as all the bacteria would be here plus it is touching all the material and can't be at enough of an angle?

All of the abovve I didn't think you should do with a tank heater?

Any input to all of this would be most appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Adam
