right now i should be unpacking the new house, but ive waited long enough to install my pair of 250w MH. i finally got both bulbs so i decided to go forth. only setback is that when i opened the box for the second bulb today it came broken so i have to wait on another one to get the second ballast running. so today i built the canopy for my 90g tank that will house the two MH, and a 2-65w power compact retro fit. To try to battle the heat i installed two 10"x6" vents on either side of the canopy, the ones that they install over the AC ducts in the ceiling, then painted them black along with the rest of the canopy. i left the back open for further venitilation and im running a small household fan inside the canopy facing directly at the halides. you'll have to wait for the full tank shot cause the single, off-centered halide isnt cuttin it for me...i think im also going to recoat it with roll-on paint, the spray paint didnt turn out so good.

the temp is doing great..

when i had the single 4x54w t5 fixture on the tank for the last few weeks the temp remained a steady 82F. with the new canopy, i took that fixture off and put the 2 halides, hanging about 2.5" from the water and the 2x65w pcs about 10" off the water. although only one of the mh is fired up, with the small fan in there and the vented canopy, the tank is now at 78F and the lights have been on since 9am! i thought i would see a rise in temperature with the halides so close to the water but i guess the vents and fan are doing the trick

and as an added bonus i forgot to mention, the new house is on well water and has a 3stage ro filtration system under the kitchen sink :good:
