I am considering getting some shrimp, most probably cherry or amano, for my 6UKG and I was wondering..

Do shrimp prefer stonger or weaker currents?

depends on the shrimp! filter feeders need a current in order to feed. this can often be provided by an air stone, with something above it for the shrimp to cling to. even those who don't filter feed, will benefit from current, as it dislodges bits that the shrimp my otherwise not be able to get at.
