i was at petsmart in the fish section and a mother bought two 1'' oscars for a 10g tank (she happen to mention it). now i know they can live fine in it for a short period of time but. how big would they get in that 10g before they like die or somthing? dont think i plan on doing that or influence it or something, its just a question of curiosity

They would probably die of malnutrition or water quality before they die of stunting. A person who keeps 2 oscars in a 10G probably isn't aware of water changes or proper care. Though oscars are hardy fish, so they would probably last months really. Other than that no idea.

There is a small, slim chance that the 10G could be a growout tank, but I think thats me just being optamistic.

I got a 1" oscar at an auction a few years back, did a quar in a 10 gallon. He outgrew it in a month, went in a 20, outgrew that in 2 more months. A couple months in a 30, and into a 72 gallon he went.

Unless the are freaks about water changes (I am) a few months tops for those fish, size wise they will be too big for the tank after about 4 months. At this point they should be getting 50% water changes every day at the least in that tank.

i realize that we are speaking of 2 o's in a 10 but i thought i'd mention that a friend of mine had an o in a 10 gal for 12-13 years. his parents got it when he was like 5 and it died after he graduated high school at 18.

I overhear people all the time while looking at fish

Many don't have a clue.

Maybe I should print this website address out on cards for them :good: !

The scary thing is, I have seen a slim population of fish that really haven't been effected by stunting. This one my at my work brought in an Iridescent shark that was a good 12-14 inches long. He had been keeping it in a 20 gallon
