So, I recently had a snail out-break in my tanks and I've been a bit busy, so while I took care of it in my fish tanks, I figured the frogs could cope for a while.

Well, I noticed that the algae that was growing on their log has almost disappeared. The snails have eaten it all. And - what's even better - the water looks as clean as it does after a complete water change.

Are there any reasons to get rid of the snails other than aesthetics? Just curious. I was going to wipe them all out but I figure if they can keep the tank clean, less work for me.

a lot of people including myself find them very helpful and keep them in their tanks on purpose. MTS can be extremely helpful with algae and cleaning excess food. I also use them to keep the sand turned up and clean. They become a problem when the population gets out of control, if you have a loach, this will never happen :p

I have three clown loaches in another tank. However, the frogs are african clawed frogs and the loaches wouldn't stand a chance. I have noticed that the snails are breeding exponentially, but so long as they keep things clean, no complaints from me.

The loaches will stand a chance one day seeing as they get 12 inches long. Sounds like you got lots o snails, hope it stays under control :good:

Are your frogs small? Because when I started to keep clawed frogs I noticed that they would eat all of the snails that I put in there, they only left shells that were clean! I added regular pond snails, about 40 at a time, and after 3 days not one to be found in a shell
