Gave the fish some Cucumber as a Treat as they Corys and CGAE have kept the tank ultra clean.

They Loved It

The Dominant CGAE chased any fish that tried to eat it, untill he was finished.

I used Lead Plant weights, and when they have finished eating the Cucumver floats to the top.

Could I add some Large Pebbles From the Garden that are covered in Algae or Not.
The Terracota Pots I added, were covered in Algae and the CGAE Loved it, the Pots are Spotless.

if you put the cucumber in the microwave for about 3 mins in some water it will soften and sink to the bottom of the tank.. makes it much easier for all fish to eat and will be completely eaten.. even the skin. :D

About the rocks, I reccomend boiling them for a couple mins to remove bacteria. Also, if you live in a place with lots of limestone, test the rocks for Calcium by dripping some vinegar onto the surface of the rock. If it sizzles, too much Calcium, don't put iot in tank. If it doesn't, boil then put in tank. Hope I helped:D

thanks for the replies.
Did not Blanche the Cucumber, will remember for the next time that i decide to give them that.

Will test the rocks.
But won't Boiling them remove the Algae from them, That is why I want to add them, as when done with the potts the fish loved it.

You could easily grow algae on your own. Just place a pebble in a jar of water and leave it out for a week or so. I tried it. It worked, but the rock was slippery so the algae came off, but it definitely works.

Make sure the tank your using is tank water. Also suck up some fish waste from the bottom of your tank. The ammonia will jump, which will increase the ammount algae spores. Also, leave the jar next to the window so it gets lots of light.

yup I give my fishes cucumber on the weekends, they love it, all of them. I just add some weight to it and leave it for the weekend and then the only thing left is the hard skin :D

Cool will leave a few pebbles in the consevatory with tank water and waste.

PS Can I use the same method to attract mosquitos to lay in a Jam Jar, in order to feed the larvae to the fish.

No need to add weight. All you have to do is blanch it (lighly boil) and it will sink. This will also soften it up that even the skin will be eaten.

have put some pebbles in the window to greenup.

Mosquitos have started laying egg sacks in the water butts so will collect a few of them and put in the Algae tubs that have been curing in the garden.

I agree. Mosquitos come from poluted waters, plus they may carry bacteria and parasites, which they could pass on to their offspring.

ok then no mosquitos, will wait for dapnia to appear in the butts.

never had any probs feeding mosquitos to the pond fish, though.
