I was looking at fish the other day in a store I had never been in and they were in the process of putting a slice of cucumber in the tanks.

The fish just went crazy and seemed to love the treat. Has anyone heard of this?

I usually give mine cucumber about once a week, but my fish aren't all that keen. My SAE loves it and judging from the bite marks, so does my invisible bristlenose.

Try zucchini also. It's less messy. Your pleco will love you for it!

mine dont like cucumber but they do like courgette

they also like grapes and peas

mine love courgette, you could try, lettuce, peas, broccoili, cucumber for starters good luck!

My fish absolutely love cucumber and peas. My plecostomous chases the barbs off of the cucumber and will not let anyone else near it. He claims it for himself. I now put 2 pieces attached to a rock with a rubberband. Try it on your fish and they will be oh so happy. Sandy

vegies are great for most fish as a lot of them are omnivorous. :)

I've always fed a lot of cukes, spinach, peas, zuchinni etc.

You can par boil them which basically is just to clean them up more but usually people just put them in raw. When using the cucumber try using the insides after removing the seeds. My fish like this better because it is easier to eat then the hard part which we eat.

I gave my fish cucumber for the first time on sunday and omg they went crazy! I have never seen anything like it. The clown loaches were the biggest fans but the gouramis, platies, chinese algae eaters and even the rummy nose tetra had a go! If you have bottom feeders like loaches you'll need to weight it down with something - I tucked mine under a rock. To prepare it I cut about a 2 inch chunk off the cucumber, then cut it in half, then scooped out the seeds and peeled a little bit of the skin off the side. This last bit probably isn't necessary but as fishbazaar said they find the skin hard to eat so I wanted to make as much of the flesh exposed as possible. I kept some of the skin on so it wouldn't all go to mush and I could take it out if necessary! I then tucked it in and  yaaay my fish were so happy! I took out the leftovers last night after 24 hours, but will definitely repeat the process as a regular weekend treat!

Oh one more thing - I got an organic cucumber as I wasn't sure how good it would be putting pesticides in the water. If you can't get organic then maybe peeling the skin would be wise.

Put the cucumber or zucchini slice in a cup, pour over boiling water and leave to stand for 10 minutes. It softens it up wonderfully and there is no danger of over-cooking the veg and making it mushy.

Well my fish in my 10g tank are the most fussy fish in the world...each fish likes there own thing like all these veges each fish likes something different and doesn't touch the rest its crazy preping it all
