Hi Cracker I need a bit of advise about an egg bound female I have.

She is a lovely CT and I put her with her mate about a month ago to mate cause when I got her she was bursting to gills with eggs, anyway they got together and she got rid of a few eggs which he promptly ate.

But he had difficulty squeezing her cause she was huge even then (biiiig belly).

Anyway I have given her a rest for the last two weeks and have tried over the weekend with various males to because she still seems to be big with eggs and none of them (cause they are all novices) can seem to get the hang of wrapping her to squeeze her tummy.

Can this be done another way to to help her or should I just persist with the original male and then take him out once the eggs have been squeezed out (the female was the only one putting the eggs into the nest and he just carried on displaying !!!) ?

Correct me if I am wrong....but as was explained to me via show breeders of top-calibre:

HM is not a dominant trait, but CT is...

So All will have some degree of 'combing', with only true CT possible in F2, not in F1.

This is because breeding a CT to a HM you will lessen the degree of shortened webbing which has been selectively bred combtails with more and more reduction for generations to produce real CT's.

And, HM, being as unpredicatble as it is, could be that none end up HM, or a few do.

So you will likely have alot of SD combtails in F1.

Yep, fawn... I have one that had a HM father and CT mother... he is just a combtail. Not HM, and not true CT.

-Maybe they are not yet ready to breed or not yet conditioned.

Some breeders cut the fins so they can easily squeeze eachother I sometimes do this..

-It takes a while to breed and all you need to do is to condition them and before you release the male be sure that he already built a lot of bubblenest.

Can this be done another way to to help her or should I just persist with the original male and then take him out once the eggs have been squeezed out (the female was the only one putting the eggs into the nest and he just carried on displaying !!!) ?

I suggest that you use the same male just be sure to condition both of them. There's always been a first time and after 2 - 3 more spawns they can do it right. Just try and try ... Patience my friend this is the key.

Goodluck and keep us posted.

Cracker,
I like the male but i think the female is absolutley stunning, I'm honest so i have to say that you have alot more nicer males but not to say he's not nic looking.
Either way it goes good luck with the spawn!

I know this male is not so pretty looking. I just need to get his bloodline infuse to the future fry.

Thanks man.

CT is said to be a recessive trait, but I'd call it incompletely dominant, as crossing CT to non-CT causes a blending of traits (combtail). CT is a true Mendelian trait though, so you will get true CT in the F2
