crowntail question

Yes and no. A combtail is a betta that is often mistaken for a crowntail -- a combtail is the most "basic" type of "crowntail" there is... they are basically what started the line. The have V between each ray, but it is only a single ray, not doubles.

Doubles, triples, etc, are crowns, and they are shoot offs of combtails.

You'll probably end up with a few combtails and a few crowntails. Crowntails are considered better fish, so you may consider going with solid crowns. it wouldn't surprise me if a pair of crowns may sometimes throw combtails, since the genetics is there already in the line.

Overall, I think it would be better to stick to solid combtails or solid crowntails unless you were attempting to start breeding for a new tail type, then you would consider doing interesting mixes.

When the crowntail has a single ray, they are technically combtails.. thats the difference.. all crowntails are combtails, but not all combtails are crowned tails :) crowns tend to be defined by having two or more extensions.
