It's a small, Plastic tank which can hold creatures like frogs, fish, insects, many people on this site have one or many. Mine previously housed stick insects for a few years.

anything that can store over a gallon of water will be fine for a betta,

u could probably keep a guppy fry in there until it grows up, then they should go in something bigger

It wouldn't be suitable for guppy fry. Most of the critter keepers I have seen are too small to fit a filter in them. Fry need very good water conditions and a constant temperature in the high 70s. It might be suitable for a betta but not for fry. I wouldn't use anything less than a 5 gallon tank to keep fry in. Less than that and its hard to keep the temperature stable.

Float it in the main tank. A couple times a day empty a little of the water out of the KK and put in new water from the tank. I raised many generations of fry this way. It works great as long as your careful about not tiping the KK when you are messing around in the tank and there aren't fish that can tip it for ya.

I've seen at my local Petsmart these little bowl filters. You could probably put a betta or guppy fry in it for a while with a filter. You wouldn't need a heater.

Those little bowl filters are pretty crappy. They are either undergravel filters or tiny filters with too little filter floss and not enough force to drag the poop out of the water. Fry don't grow well in small spaces. The larger the tank is for them the faster and larger they will grow. And YES they need a heater, unless the room is going to be heated to about 80 to keep the temperature of the water high enough.

No u dont need a filter just make sure and make weekly water changes if u could daily feed the fry a little bit of food. They should be okay only for now but when there big enought not to fit in the mouths of other fish thell be safe now dont u go and forget and get lazy around the water changes :p. Cause I did :*)
