Mods, can you create something so that you can move your own post rather than asking you? It would make sense and it would be a lot less work. Some people post in wrong section then if someone asks them to move it they create another post, it just clogs up the forum sometimes.

The board software does not allow activity such as you suggest to people that do not have access to the mod or admin panel.

It's not a question of being allowed to, members are either mods or not. Mods have mod controls, like moving, editing, merging etc, members don't, the two can't mix. The software doesn't work like that.

If users could move their own posts it would be bedlam. Too-ing and fro-ing them to wherever they please. It'd be a mods nightmare.

How about members get the ability to delete posts and ban members as well

If someone posts their thread in the wrong section it's their problem and their fault, just means their thread won't get as many useful replies until a mod moves it. Just be more careful when posting new topics!

Why don't you just pm a mod to ask that it be moved, or report your own post, asking the same? No clogging involved there.

I cant understand why members dont have the option to delete post/topics (only ones they have created).. the forums i have created my members have the option to delete posts, they can delete a topic they have created also but only if it has had no replies, if its had replies it cant be deleted...

Can maybe a mod explain why this is not activated on here as it would be nice to know why :)

On another note, if you create a topic in the wrong section, the best thing to do is edit it and rename the title to mod please delete and sub to, posted in wrong section, and when a mod has time they can do this for you :)

Because it requires a higher level of access to the database than the regular members have. To "move" something requires that a new record be created, the content of the old record be copied to it and then the original record be deleted.

If you have a real beef about it, you could ask the developers of the board software, (InVision Power Board), to implement such a facility. Until then, we work within the constraints of the software.

So the amdin dont have the bog standard feature in thier admin control panel under forum overall permissions to turn on allow memebrs to delete posts? strange cos this is such a standard feature in all boards.

Usually you have something like...

view, read, post, reply, new topic, edit, delete, etc and you can choose members, mods, admin, to specify who can do these particualr things on each section of the forum... allowing a member to delete posts should be no problem. obviously if delete is set to members, any rank above this can also do it, and anything under cant..

Personally i aint bothered about the option, just stating that it aint hard to apply.

i Setup a new invision board and its possible...

Lateral was talking about moving posts. Regarding deleting posts, we don't have implement this is because it allows more traceability. If a user decides to completely edit out a post the relic is left, without having to churn through log files.

I can see little benefit with allowing users to delete their own posts, as they can edit it to remove the content if so desired.

It seems that when I originally joined the forum, we did have the ability to delete our own posts but that was over 3 years ago so I could definitely be mistaking. As mentioned before, if you post something you want moved or removed, just PM one of us and we can usually take care of it pretty quickly.
