I was wondering if anybody else has experienced extremely high CO2 readings with a DIY yeast CO2 system. I checked my CO2, and after only a day and a half the CO2 is at 40ppm and possibly more. I have the bubbles feeding into the powerhead intake every few seconds. Tank specs are 55 gal, KH=4, pH = 6.5. Help! will it affect the fish in any way?

anything over 30 is high, it might not do much to the fish yet, but the extreme amount of CO2 does change the PH of the tank so much in a short time it could cause a problem, also algae will over run the tank in no time as the plants cant use all that CO2

I would really look into to PH if I were you, as 40ppm will turn into carbonic acids CO2 + H2O <--> H2CO3 , meaning PH drops, the longer its not used the more the PH drops , and drops and drops and drops..

The mix should slow down after a few days, i've found it really hard to keep the co2 level/ph stable with my DIY setup, so i'm probably going to have to remove it when I get more sensitive fish.
