crazy catfish

I was just watching my bristlenose sucking the side of my tank. he started to go up while still sucking until he had the top half of his body out of the water and was sucking the glass above the waterline . Is this normal?

Its a sure sign of poor water quality usually, time to get the test kit out pronto!!!
