I have two Blue Gouramis, a male and a female. They were doing just great up until now. The male started getting really dark, and the female went crazy. She started flipping all over the fish tank and even hitting the lid and the sides. She does that every once and a while. I put her in a hospital tank. She seemed to have rot or something, cuz the scales right above her eyes seemed to be peeling off. So in the hospital tank I put some Jungle Fungus Eliminator. I have no idea if this will work cuz its the first day I have done this, so please help me out here!

try some triple sulfa I think it works good for rot and also fungus that is the only thing I have ever used with good luck to I might add.

Where do I get this? We have a Wal-Mart, Earl May, and a few locally owned places but I'm not sure if it is carried anywhere. -_-

i am sorry to hear about your lose it is always hard to lose any kind of pet I cant stand it I get so upset even if one of mine is sick or has a spot that shouldnt be there.

aaaaawww sorry Jesse :(
For future reference if theres a med you need and its unavailable in your area theres tons of fish sites you can purchase from but theres also always ebay and you can usually find what you need and pay via check or a money order if your like me and all your credit cards are maxed  But that may be a timely ordeal and when your fish is sick you need help asap
But still...sorry about your fish

It's okay, I still have my other Gourami. It's still as beautiful as heck. He seems like he's doin okay, 'cept he hides out in the teracotta cave I made. 'Tis that normal?

In my experience, Gouramis become a bit sheltered:

1. If they are a lone fishy i.e. they have no partner
2. If they feel threatened by another fish. This could be the case now as they have no partner, which will have previously given the fish confidence

Wait for a day or so and see if any other fish have contracted the rot. If not, add another blue gourami to the tank and see how they get on.

Well, all is fine now. It's kinda funny actually. My Gourami and my Red-tail have taken a liking to each other. They swim around together, sit around together, and eat together. They will not be separated! What a match made in "heaven" eh? :D

Jesse, when you say 'red tail' do you mean red tail shark? (I know its really a catfish!)

My male Dwarf Gourami has a similar relationship with my red tailed shark, I think it works in his favour as the shark hates the tiger barbs but doesnt see the gourami as threat so he constantly chases the barbs away - sort of like a bouncer for the gourami. :fun:

Yeah, I do mean the Red Tail Shark. He's pretty neat. While the Gourami is in the cave, the red tail sits outside and chases away anyone that gets close! :p

By the way, I don't think that the red tail is a catfish. Someone here told me that it wasn't. Anyways, now I have another problem with the Gourami. It only happened last night, but it was really weird. He bent himself almost totally in half. I mean, his head was touching his tail. Then he straitened out and started doing barrel rolls around the fish tank. Then he stopped and landed on the bottom sideways. I was sitting on my bed watching, and I thought "Oh my gosh now he's dead too!" So I ran up to the tank, and to my surprise, he got up and started swimming normally. He seems fine now, he's swimin around the fish tank like a happy little fishy. Has anyone had this happen before? Can someone tell me what happened? Oh yeah! (sorry, just remembered something) why do crabs (I have a golden claw) always want to get out of the tank?

funny you all mention this my redtail shark and my baby pleco has paired together I never told anyone before because I thought that you guys would think i was nuts but I believe that redtails like a mate but just not of thier own kind how do you tell the boys from the girls on the redtails I would love a pair of them I dont guess they would fight would you think

:D Funny you should ask. Red Tails are actually hard to distinguish different sexes. The female is usually larger and stronger than the male. I would recommed, probably along with all the other people on this forum, is to not put two red tails together, whether male or female. They are too intolerant of their own kind. They will fight and bicker until they die. Red tails go along great with other fish their own size. :/
