My female australian red claw recently 'gave birth' to around 50ish little cute crayfishes.
Female red claws carry fertilised eggs at their abdomen for around a month till they hatch. Even when hatched, the babies do not venture out that early. :p

Here are the pictures, from near hatching egg to the fry.

wow! great pics!
is that algae on the mothers shell?

Thanks all :D :D :D

very cool, what are you going to do with the little babies?

Umm... considering that the mother was caught in a local stream/river, I might release them back to it? But then, australian red claws aren't native to our ecosystem... I might also sell them to a LFS, or even give them away to friends..

Yeah, it's algae >.<. The tank is actually situated outdoors, and being in a tropical country with blaring sun, it's bound to happen. The tank had only the mother and babies throughout its incubation. I dared not put any algae eating fishes as for fear of it terrorising and stressing the mother.

But I noticed that, and if you look closely, you can see that the mother's algae disappeared after the babies started venturing out.. I guess it's food for them :p

The tank now is full of green water algae.. will have to do a water change and maybe put in some anacharis/elodea.
