Crayfish Blue Lobster

Was thinking of getting these for my 30x22x12.

Would that be enough room for 2 of them?

Zoe

i would say no, 25 to 30 each, seems a good rule of thumb. cray can become very aggressive, if they dont have enough space. also keeping two of the same sex can be a better bet than one of each.

this info relates to the Blue Lobster/ Australian redclaw. lol which i hope you have, any other breed is effectivly illegal in the UK.
if you have a Electric Blue or Cobalt Blue Cray, these seem happy enough in 10-15 gallons each.

Really? That's interesting. I'd have though two of the same sex would be more aggressive to each other.

given enough space, two male or two females is best.

thing is the male gives off hormones that help bring the female for mating. in the wild Cray do not live in family units. so if a female is in the first stages of berry, the male will just be a threat, very possibly causing fights.

but as with anything to do with cray, some people do manage to do things that others cant or wont. and the nature/personality of both the tank and cray are, perhaps more important, than with any other aquatic pet.

Yet another reason why they're such interesting little animals... :)

oh yeh, the truth is nobody has really done any proper research on Cray in aquariums, and how this may effect their behavior. even simple things like the development after hatching, are far from clear.

yeh man these are the critters if you want to be truly adding new information to knowledge in this hobby.
