Hi,

My dad has two old tanks that I want to use, but one has a cracked side panel and the other has a crack in the base panel.

I want to fix them, so I guess I need to contact a glazer.

Do I need a certain type of glass to repair the tank? or will any type work? obviously it will need to be the same thickness etc.

and as for fixing the new panels inplace I will need to remove the old ones, so would I just score the silicone with a stanely knife, and the panels should then just slid out, correct?

well depending in the size of the cracks, you may be able to stick some glass patches on the inside of the tank rather than removing the whole panel

if you wish to replace the whole sheet, there is a very good "pinned" thread on this subject. do a forum search to find it!! i will say it involves sweat bruised and grazed knuckles the entire Oxford concise dictionary of common swear words and a fair amount of luck! keep us informed!!!

lol, thanks, it is missing peices so glass splints wont help.
I'm gonna get a quote from a galzer for the glass, and see if its worth it or not as silicone is pretty expensive as well.

£3.99 from my local caravan centre. yep its the safe stuff say so on the tube!!!! Bargin.

Well, I've just had a decent look at the tank,s one has a small crack a long the edge, which can be fixed with silicone, just cant find my silicone now :S

The other, the side panel is shattered, so I need to get a new sheet of glass for it.

Better go look on ebay for some silcone.
