my friend just got a 40g tank with filter canopy and heater for free and there is a crack in the bottom its pretty big what du u suggest to fix this tank and how much would it cost

Sealant alone will do nothing, but waste money on silicone.
The cheapest thing to do is cut a piece of glass the same size of the bottom of the tank and silicone the piece of glass in place.
$5 - $10 for silicone At a pet store.
free to $10 for the glass. At a glass shop.

All the hardware stores around here sell aguarium slicone for cheaper than any of the lfs's

regular glass is the best. You could use tempered glass but it would cost you more than buying up a new tank. Not quite but alot.
