Hi, as you might know i've already got a 90ltr coldwater set up. Have recently got a 25ltr tropical aquarium, and found a bargain for 25quid on a 24" x 12" x 18" high aquarium. needs a new lid but got it with the filter, heater etc etc all brand new.

During transit, it gained a crack to the base, 2, 3 inch max. can't be felt on the inside or outside of the tank. So was wondering if i were to seal it with silicone or something would it still be suitable for use?

I really want to use this tank for a new tropical set up, it's a nice size, but i also need to know that the ltr capacity would be for this tank on the above dimensions? any ideas?

- have been told that if i silicone the base of the tank over the crack, and then get a patch of glass and silicone that over the crack on the inside that this will be sufficient to make sure it will hold 70 or so ltrs of water (i think it will hold about 70ltr?)

thanks

You have two options; replace the base pain entirely, or drill a hole at either end of the crack and then silicone a "patch" over it. The drill holes are esential, as otherwise the crack will continue to run  IMO, it is safer to replace the pain, as on the base, you cannot see if the crack has continued to run after the drilling, as substrate is usually placed over it... If for some reason the crack continued to run, you wouldn't be able to tell without stripping the tank, of the waiting to see the tank empty in the morning with 70ltr over the floor and dead bodies in the tank.....

To get volume, multiply the length, hight and wideth together in cm's and divide by 1000 :good: I make that 81l empty volume. This assumes you fill to the rim and don't add decor, so in reality you are looking a a final volume of about 70l. TBH, I'd replace the cracked pain
