I saw some crabs at the lfs and was wondering how long they'd live and how many I could have in a 10g. Also, could I have any other fish with them? Like an apple snail of some African dwarf frogs or maybe a few guppies or neons? How long do the crabs live?

You would need to be much more specific of the species of the crab. Having said that i doubt they would be very good in your tank being its a tiny little 10Gall

I think it was labeled as a "Gold Fiddler Crab"

fiddlers need land and water. They might be living in freshwter at the pet store, but they will die within weeks in a freshwater tank. They belong in brakish water, since they live in bays in the mud and stuff like that.

That site siad the crabs died after a few months :/ Aren't they supposed to live much longer than that?

in freshwater, with no land. they die, in months. in brackish, with land they can live for many years. indeed land can be the main thing, there is a member of this forum, who kept fiddlers for two years in a freshwater tank, but they and lots dry areas to use.

I was looking at other types of crabs online and there was a Freshwater Red Claw Crab. Would they only need freshwater or would they need brackinsh too? IS there any type of crab that will live comfortably in freshwater? Providing land is not a problem. Also, what type of filter should I use for a tank like that?

Red Claws are brackish too, though from what I understand if you give them some land and a dish of brackish water to bathe in they might turn out okay.

There are some true freshwater crabs, but I'm unsure if any are available in the aquarium trade. Most of the ones sold as freshwater are actually land crabs, who live away from water and can drink/bathe in fresh water, but need salt water to molt as well as reproduce. True freshwate crabs, in contrast, only have comparably few eggs which develop directly into mini-crabs.

True freshwater crabs can grow very big!! The rainbow crab can reach 8" across!! they also look quite drab as they get older. whichever way you look at it they will need land, more of it than water. Red crab and Fiddler will, put up with a small area of land and a brackish pool to sit in, using the tank more like a bath. but all crabs will benefit from an area that they can burrow and sleep in. I have Redcrab in my community with a little dry area and a small puddle of brackish.
