Ok here's my pond...I built it last year (just under 2000gal) and for the most part I'm well chuffed with it, everything seems to have settled in really nicely. However, I'm now making slight changes/improvements. One of the things I didn't get quite right was the grass turf I laid right up to the waters edge, and in fact a little into it (as shown in the first couple of pictures). It's still there and looking good, however it soaks up a lot of water and causes the ground around it to be permanently damp, something which i can live with but apparently the girlfriend can't. So I've started removing sections of the turf and creating flower beds next to the pond. This has created another slight issue in as much as I now have exposed liner showing, which is something I can't live with (as shown in the last picture).
I need to find some plants which will spread to cover the exposed liner between the soil and the water, and preferably quite quickly. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what plants would achieve this and whether they would need to be planted in the water or the soil?

you should really put some sort of retaining edge to stop the soil washing into the pond
i had a similar problem when i built a pond for the goldies finished last year
the large pebbles are held in place with aquatic silicone
this is what i came up with

as for plants something like creeping jenny or the chamelon plant they both like moist soils

Not really what I was after lol, and in all honesty I kinda dislike any edging that isn't as natural as I can make it. There is no problem with soil falling into the pond as the turf holds it all in place and once the plants are established then they'll take over. However, I was really looking for some plants to cover the edging.

Beautiful pond Darkstar! :good:
You could try some of the following which should be suitable:

Carex elata - Golden Sedge
Butomus umbellatus - Flowering Rush
Lysimachia nummularia - Creeping Jenny
Caltha palustris - Marsh Marigold

To keep the girlfriend happy, you could always plant a couple of pretty flowering plants such as:

Iris pseudacorus - Yellow Flag Iris
Iris ensata - Japanese Iris

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that Stang, that's exactly the answer I was looking for:)...I'll check them out and see which ones I like.

Thanks.

You are more than welcome.
