I'm getting ready to restock my 29 gallon tank now that I've been disease free for a few months and am considering Red Eye Tetras. I have been looking at a few different sites and believe that they fit what I'm looking for depending on the answers to two questions.

1) Are they nippy like some tetras can be? I don't know what else I want in the tank but I know I don't want to be limited by having nippy fish. I keep reading that they are peaceful and great for community tanks but that could mean a lot of things.

2) Do they require a certain mixture of sexes like 2 females per male or something?

Is there anything else that people want to add based on experience? All info is appreciated, thanks!

hi
we used to have 6 red eye tetras a few years ago & i loved them as they are very stunning fish. ours didnt tend to shoal together much & were not really very active fish, they all had theyre own little territory where they would park all day. i think from body shape of ours we had males & females..im not sure which were which but a couple of our redeyes were double the size of others. we never had a problem with them nipping or harrassing other fish.
id get more but we have no room!

i found them pritty nippy when i had them

as far as sexes i dont know ...

but i had a random bach of 8 3 were females and they were fine

(1 no there are peaceful

(2 no just keep them in a shoal of about five or so

like most tetras they require a temp. of about 75 degrees and a good tankmate would be dimond tetras but keep in mind it two inches of fish to the gallon. :) red eye tetras are indeed really great fish.
