1) Do hermit crabs need to shed the same as other crabs? I know they don't need to shed thier shell :p But I keep seeing legs on the substrate and I count my crabs 3 LH and 6 RL hermits and they are all present and correct. I have even seen whole hermit crab bodies twice but they are gone in an hour or so and the body count is still correct. My hermits have a selection of shell to choose from and my biggest, a LH hermit is currently residing in a turbo snail shell.

2) Today I did a water change and cleaned the algae off the filters and heater. I also changed the direction of the PH flow and put on a hydor rotating water deflector. An hour later the tank seems to be impressed by the change! But the change has brought out what looked like Aiptasia. The Aiptasia were not there before I made the changes and water change. I had a few bristle worms but thats all. I think I read of a shrimp that takes care of them but is there another way? I got a boxing shrimp a couple of weeks ago and my hitchiking crab took off his boxing gloves :( he still seems fine though.

I have two tank bred percula clowns and a sixline wrasse + the 9 hermits and 12 turbo snails.

Thanks

Jon

1, yes your hermits do shed there exoskeleton sometimes you just find legs and other time you will find the whole thing which makes you think its dead when its not its just waiting for its new shell to harden

2, if you have never seen the aptasia before it could be that they were very small and hiding deep within the rock and now feel its time to say hello, the shrimps your talking about are peppermint shrimps i had 4 of them and they did not eat the big one just the small ones, if you cant wait to get rid then get some joes juice, i havent used it yep but ive seen the results (not days not hours but minutes) hope this helps

Yes, great help, could not understand why I was seeing dead crabs every so often and still had same amount of living crabs.

I don't want to add any chemicals and have never seen joes juice.

try this if it works joes juice is reef safejoesjuice i think this might change your mind loads of people have used it and they all say its great check out the pics on there ;)

Blout is right.
I will add though that Joes Juice is probably the only way for you to get rid of the aiptasia. Peppermints are great of course but your boxing shrimp will make short work of them. :*)

On another forum, I've also seen them recommend lemon juice, if you have a syringe (can get at drugstores) to inject it right into the stalk.

Joes juice is magical stuff! if you buy any you think you are getting ripped off because its in such a tiny bottle. but it only needs the tiniest drop to wipe the anemone out

U can Also use Boiling Water in a Syringe. Works almost as well and Is Free

Thanks for all the replys people. I am making a trip to wharfaquatics tommorow, you think they will have joes juice or is it only an internet order?
