Hi,

Recently one of my royal rams had an inflamed eye and it pushed the eye out of it's socket. It died a few days later.

Now I have noticed that another one of my fish has the same thing starting and I don't know if this is Popeye, someone else has posted up on here about how to treat Popeye but I'm not sure if that's what this fish is suffering from, I'm assuming from the name that Popeye literally means the eye is pushed out? Can someone please confirm if this is correct the eye looks swollen and cloudy and I don't want to loose another fish?

Thanks
Cazangel

AFAIK popeye isn't a disease or infection in itself, it is merely a product of another underlying problem. Was the "popeye" just in one eye? If so it's possibly just down to injury, if it was both it could have been a bacterial infection.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Popeye will look like the eyes are bulging out.
Cloudy eye is a symtom of a desease not a desease in its own right.

It is just in one eye but it looks the same as the eye did on the fish that just died.

The tank is 180 litres
About 22 Fish in tank mainly Cichlids.
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0

PH 7.5

I would add a bacterial med to the tank then.
Any sharp ornaments or plants that he could of caught his eye on.

It's rare to have a nitrate reading of 0. What your tap nitrate reading and do you have live plants in the tank?
