i no some are sterile but this 1 defiently looks like its got eggs. i also would like some tips on identifing males from females.... if it does so happen that its pregnant and they do become fertilised will they stick a chance in my tank?? i definatly belive i have a male and a female because 2 were jaw locking at 1 stage i know it could also be 2 males disputing with each other aswel. cheers 4 any help i recieve in advance :)

She could very well have eggs. It's the male who is sterile. The chances of the eggs beccoming fertilized is pretty slim. Most likely she will lay the eggs, look at them a few days, then eat them. If you put in another (similar) cichlid it may fertilize the eggs. Hope this helps!!! :D

cheers for your help. i'll just leave them be i think lol. if the eggs do become fertile then great if not oh wel. :good:

well the female is really round on her underside now, how long would it be until eggs are laid??

:good:

my male one died. but the female kept laying eggs and then the other fish ate them.
if heard of them breeding. but all i know is my female had long fins its very random with BP no way to really tell...

my female has long fins aswel that's why at first when i got them i thought she was the he. :)

i have another with shorter fins which is around the same size (6 inches) so i'm hoping that it's a male and female and then there could be love

what sort of fish is that in your signature??? i've been meaning to ask you for a while never got round to it though. it looks alot like a rainbow chiclid crossed with something? my 7 rainbows are all really colourful bright yellows and some have blues in them.

:good:
