Hi all,

I have moved house and found out that there is a river about 15 mins walk away from my house.
the river is in hertfordshire, england , for usa readers

I have a spare tank just lying around and i thouht why dont i set up a river tank using the fish, stones, plants from the river. I dont know what fish are in the river so if someone could maybe tell me ? I have caught fish from another river near by before as wel, with a net.

and the tank is a 33 US gallon

I would love to do this , i thought about leaving the tank outside and using a pond filter, but im not sure, its summer now so all is good !

theoretically you could do it.
pratically you have lots of obsticles to overcome, fast flow high O2 levels etc

also there maybe a legal issue about taking fish from the river,
best contact the enviroment agency to be sure

mm... i don't know what river it is but I would be careful with this idea. The river might be a protected area, and then removing wildlife would be illegal. Also don't most river species get huge? unless you only snagged some minnows, I don't think a 33g would be big enough. I haven't any idea what game laws are out in England, or what is in and around where you're at, but I bet there's a local game/forestry commisioner who could at least inform you of what species you're looking at in the river, so you'd know what's going to get big, and what to feed things if it isn't illegal (or you decide to do it anyway :shifty: ).

HI,
I live in hertfordshire where are you based? Which river ? I was thinking of doing the same with an old 20 gallon tank on my patio.
Thanks

I live in the hertford/ware area !

I wouldnt take many fish to keep , proly if they start to get big then put em back into the river !
Plus i was thinking of having lots of over filtration with a pond filter, still have to reasearch filters !

Im going down to the river now just to check it out and have a little walk !
