Hi,

I have just registered with this forum and was rather hoping that I would be able to get some advise from you guys?

I have 200lt Tank with 2 red stripe Tiger Oscars, I have just changed my filter as I thought that this may be the problem.
The filter that I have taken out was a 'Tetratec IN1000' and replaced with a 'Fluval 305' but this has not improved the cloudines of the water , I thought it may be the sand at the bottom of the tank but am not sure.

I am reluctant to take the sand out and replace it with the graval as I find this easy for cleaning them out. (I am open to ideas for this 2)

Did you thoroughly rinse your sande before use? This needs to be done with all forms of substrate, gravel aswell - as they are usually very dusty when bought.

How long have you had your tank running for?

Hi Thanks for the reply,

I have had my tank set up for around 2 months now, it was really clear at first, it is just this past month that it has started to get cloudy, I know Tiger Oscars are dirty fish and I do clean/change water on a regular basis. I thought it may be the filter so I bought the Fluval 305 but this has not made any difference at all.

I am starting to run out off ideas.

Well the size is big enough - iirc they need 50 gallons per fish - so 200 is more than adequate.
How often are you feeding them & what food?
Try to cut back to feeding them once a day, if your feeding any more than this - and try to cut out any frozen foods that are high in nutients - just untill its all clear again.
If your not doing so allready also increase water changes. It will more than likely take several weeks of daily water changes to clear. Do 30% changes (or 20% if your worried about doing too much).
I had a slight problem similar when i first started - none of the products i tried worked either.
Also try a carbon pad for your filter - this will speed up removing any colour in the water.

Thank you all,

I am going to try more water changes on a regular basis to see if this works.

I have spoken to my mate who has snails in his tank and think I will stay away from that idea thanks, he started with 1 and now cant get rid of them.

I will post another thread to let you all know if the problem goes away.
