can a cory be kept in a 40 g with a convict guarami and 5 tiger barbs yes or no....the convict is strangely not agressive

if the convict is docile, you could try to keep a school of 6 or 7 cories i guess, but you better have a plan B if the convict doesn't like them

Hi xamdarb :)

Corys are schooling fish, and even under the best of circumstances should not be kept alone. To see them at their best, keep them in as large a group as you can.

The reason some fish school is because they feel defenseless on their own. As one of a large number they are less apt to be attacked by predators. In other words, the guy next to him could be the one who gets eaten. :X Since the cory, or even corys, have no way to defend themselves or even escape, they are likely to be timid and spend a lot of time hiding instead of playing.

If you have any doubts about their safety and/or comfort, please pass them by or at least, as yvez9 suggested, have a plan B. :D

since you only acquired your "docile" convict three days ago, you need to wait a few weeks to a month to fully establish his personality. even then it might be risky to add cories who are the fishy equivalent of sheep.

you can't really say for certain that your tank's setup is a "success" untill it's run for at least 6 months without any problems.

you definitely can't identify a fish's temperament until it's had time to settle into its environment, which takes a few weeks to be really sure.

if you've acquired juvenile fish, then you need to wait until they reach sexual maturity before you can really decide what kind of personality they have.

--EDIT--
newbies, i was joking in the comparisons previously listed in this spot. please don't use my little jest as actual information.

Hi pica_nuttalli :)

It appears that you have some very wrong ideas about corys. Why not take some time to do a little research before you make such sweeping statements? There are newbies on this forum who might just believe them. :look:

Besides what's already been said you should keep in mind that though the other fish you have currently don't get in the convict's way, the cories very well might as both species spend most time near the bottom of the tank.

what about ottos do they need to be schooled and my convict only acts agressive when i feed them i dont think he likes them stealing his food....i dont think it would take 6 months to see if your fish is going to be aggresive wouldent it only take like a month
