I am planning a new tank (a 3 footer my mum got free of a guy at her church. I haven't seen it yet, but I have begun thinking about it!) and I was thinking of 2 things i certainly want in there. Corys, and also a lawn across the substrate, some kind of low small plant.

Here's the question though! Are those 2 things compatible? I read a lot that cories need sand (to to prevent barbel erosion, and for them to root around in) but would plants (planted in soil covered by sand or gravel) be OK for them to be rooting around in?

Many members at the Planted section have kept corydoras in setups that feature lawncovers. What type of lawncover did you have in mind?

My only concern is that corydoras like to plow through things and larger species may and have uprooted some of my smaller plants in the past. My Brochis splendens and C. pulchers were particularly clumsy. But smaller species are often very successful.
