Hi :)

Yesterday afternoon the albino cory's in our kitchen tank spawned for the fourth time. I watched them for a while, but then one of the bigger cory's started eating the eggs off the glass - is this normal? On previous occasions the guppies have eaten them, think the plec has had some too - but never seen the cory's eating their own eggs before

I'm sure other will give more detail - but it can be normal yes... some species do it more than others...

well fed coryies tend to not eat the eggs, when they do spawn, try to get the eggs out, using a razor blade and into a sperate tank, so no chance of them being eaten then :D good luck, I'm trying to get my bronze to spawn again so I can save some this time :)

i have 5 leopard corries and have never been able to get them too spawn what do i need to do to get them to spawn?

I found a planeted tank was best, I tried a breeding tank and they wouldn't breed, also to trigger the breeding do a 20% water change with cold water, or cold-ish water, at least 3-4 degrees lower.

I've read that Cories breed during the raining seasons, so they think its raining as the water temp drops suddenly.

We're in the process of cycling a small tank ready for the next spawn, got razor blades ready too - will hopefully be able to rescue at least some eggs next time. It was really weird watching them, because they ate the eggs literally as soon as they'd been laid - and they had already been fed, so it's unlikely to have been a hunger thing.

The cory's in our second tank haven't spawned yet, but there were only four until earlier this week when we bought another two.

:-(

I've not seen them spawn yet, just seen the eggs, so no even sure if it is the two bronze mating, or a cross breeding?

I only have albinos, so I know the fry will be albinos (if I can save any!) - yesterday was the first time I've actually seen them spawn though, they seem to do it over night usually.

I think it depends partly on the kind. Apparently peppered cories are notorious for eating the eggs. I have never yet been able to save any from my peppereds because they literally pick them off as soon as they are laid, I've even seen them trying to get them from her clutch. And yet they are extremely well fed when spawning; they just seem to like the taste. Next time I'll go for something that looks after its young: I'm fed up with all the cannibals in my tanks!
