Fish Crazy
I wondered why my 3 corys and 2 ottos get so active at night. When I do lights out around 10 p.m. and stay up on the computer, sometimes with the overhead room light out too, they just swim like crazy. Their favorite thing is surfing the current from the 2 filters currently running. They go pretty high up the front wall, sometimes a couple of them together, almost schooling, then surf back down. Once in awhile, an otto will join in with the group.
I was just reading some other posts on catfish being more active at night, so I should have guessed the reason for all the nocturnal activity. They may choose the front of the tank because 1) it is closer to humans (who feed them), or 2) because it has the most swimming space or 3) because it is the area the gouarmi and neons don't inhabit at night. Don't know, but glad to read there is a cause for all this action.
The ottos are so happy now that there are 2 of them. I won't let them be alone again, ditto for the corys. Both seem happy in groups.
